Due to timber logging and rampant poaching for ivory, the forest itself is in trouble. The elephant range has become more and more fragmented. Elephants are no longer safe because there is a prize on the elephants head.

Coffee has now been mechanically harvested for over 20 years, and while there are a few different brands of machines they are all basically the same design with the same components.

I recently gave a farm tour for a workshop about coffee farming. The class was attended by several Kona coffee farmers, some with quite a bit of farming experience. They didn't believe me when I said I do all the work myself and they unanimously decided that I need some full-time help.

I never used to drink coffee. I made it through college, the Army, work as a political campaign manager, a coffee-drinking wife, seminary, and one child. The combination of two children under the age of two and full-time work in parish ministry, however, put me over the edge.

Everything changes. People aren't always happy with change but it happens whether we like it or not. It's kind of a survival instinct to be afraid of change because change isn't always safe.

Interestingly every coffee has its own character profile, it's own nature. Wouldn't it be a novel and interesting thought to match the style of a coffee gift, to Dad's own very special style?
